Ricky Watters on LeSean McCoy

Former Eagles standout running back Ricky Watters has credited current rookie LeSean McCoy for “renewing his interest in the game.” McCoy went to the same high school, Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, PA, as Watters. So why is he paying such close attention to “Shady” McCoy? “Everyone was talking about him. My cousins were saying, ‘You have to check him out. You have to watch him, he is showing some of the moves that you had.’ They know that always gets me excited because even more than teams, I am more about the players.”

Watters was a five-time Pro Bowler and rushed for over 10,000 yards in his NFL career, so it is great news to learn that they have become friends. How does he think McCoy will fit in with this offense? “I think he has a set of skills that can definitely help the team,” said Watters. “It all depends on how he matures and how fast he matures because it is a big leap. It’s definitely a big leap; there is a lot to learn. But if anyone can do it I think he can. He can do everything out there,” Watters said. “He can run routes, he can catch, he can obviously run the ball and he can block, and that’s what I like in a back and that’s why I enjoy watching him play.”

The Eagles certainly hope that Watters is accurate in his assessment of McCoy’s potential. The 5-foot-10, 198-pound McCoy has his work cut out for him to succeed at the next level. Now he will have two superstar running backs to call upon for advice in Watters and Westbrook. Eagles fans can only hope that he is able to match the production of those fine running backs.
