Eagles to Add New Defensive Coach

Joe Trahan of WFAA-TV in Dallas/Fort Worth, Tx. and Matt Mosley of ESPN.com are both reporting that former Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart will be added to the staff. Stewart was fired after the season and at one point was stripped of his play-calling duties for the defense.
League sources tell me former Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart has landed a job with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s expected to sign a contract early next week.
Stewart was made the fall guy for a Cowboys defense that finished in the top 10 in league rankings, but tied for 19th in the NFL in scoring defense. Now Wade Phillips is the head coach and DC, so the buc stops with him.
Head coach Andy Reid has ties with Stewart from all the way back at Northern Arizona, where Reid was an offensive line coach and Stewart was a cornerback. With defensive coordinator Jim Johnson away from the team, secondary coach Sean McDermott has been running the defense. That opens the door for Stewart to fill-in as secondary coach until Johnson returns. Perhaps the biggest plus is Stewart’s knowledge of the Cowboys. He could be instrumental in game planning against the 3-4 defense that Dallas employs.
